this song was inspired by the act of closure; it was set to be my final installment of the weeklyMUSE and I wanted to reflect back on the experience and also help understand the process of reflecting. what i came to realize is how much time is wasted and further, how much time is wasted on thinking about how much time has been wasted. this is a song about excising that cancerous time from the collective memory, and instead filling that space up with future memories that have yet to realize, but bringing them into the current picture so that your life might better reflect where you want to go, rather than where you have been. here are the lyrics:

I happened on a memory of circumstance it developed like a photograph in my mind

all the colors of the spectrum fluttered scientifically to the edges butterflying time & space & all the others in my mind

and each and every wasted minute chemically coalesced into the middle allowing a clean and surgical incision of that time

and glaring up the microscope was this cancer of mine

and praise broke through the ICU that we caught it in time

all the colors of the spectrum fluttered scientifically to the edges butterflying time & space & all the others in my mind

and chemically coalescing  all these future memories into the present

memories of new years this is a new year

After watching so many various youtube clips of various hate-mongerers, i decided to create my own youtube style song, one-take looped song with video to reply to various youtube posts. trying to spread more love than throw hate, so the song is about equality, plain and simple

if you take the entire united states
and split them up one by one via tectonic plates
you can have georgia and nebraska and kansas and dakotas (both of them) and i'll even throw in maine
but give me my boyfriend and the golden state and tell me i'm just the same

if you take the entire human race
and split us up one by one via bible mandates
you can have judas and david and mary and joseph and jesus too
just give me my jason and crustaceans and tell me i'm just the same as you

This one comes off the heels of seeing Elisa, the Alanis of Italy. I decided I wanted to write some Italian lyrics but I couldn't get stuck out of this one phrase. Ironic since the lyric implies that the subject of the song can go on and on about many things, but is unable to quit, so to speak.

    l'unica cosa
    che non mi sai dire
    e' arrivederci

I originally meant to post this before my hawai'ian vacay, but didn't have a breath to do that, so instead it got remixed and reworked with a few strums of a ukelele wizardress i met on the beach. her noises were peaceful, not quite catastrophic, but in the context of this song, they are. mahalo.

    these precious catastrophic noises
they head right for the inner ear
and cut like chainsaw gestures to bushes
    unfolding images to hear

This is a song inspired by our dear leader, Mr. Bush, after seeing Oliver Stone's new flick. An innocent man whose innocent stupidity fosters implications of guilt. The song is kinda like that, too, right?

again & again (& again & again)

I was so inspired by how far and wide my plea was cast to folks to not put a ban on love and marriage this november. And even more inspiring was the incredible response from far and wide. This song is about what it means (or should mean) to be human and just exist and co-exist in a timeline of repetitive beauty and experience and how everything comes down to looking for the right answers, not just waiting for them to be given to you. Oh, and not being complacent when your beliefs are challenged. Here are the lyrics:

finding the dignity in small things
finding the apathy in all things
finding the honesty in every last little thing
and finding me again & again

finding proportional existence when the world has given more than you can chew
finding existential significance when you're fed just what isn't true
finding laughable resistance when all you're looking for is you again & again

finding nothing where it ought to be
when everything is right where it ought to be
and finding you exactly right where you ought to be again & again & again & again
